Tomato Hobby - German Grand Admiral Karl Donitz
Tomato Hobby is one of the newest players in the
1/6th scale action figure arena and from what I can see they show a lot
of promise. For their first figure Tomato has selected a very
interesting subject German Grand Admiral Karl Donitz. Donitz
served as Commander in Chief of Submarines, then he was promoted
tor Commander in Chief of the German Navy. Donitz was the architect of
the German Submarine fleet and the "Wolf Pack". Before Killing himself
Adolf Hitler appointed Donitz as his successor, he held that position
for only a few days shortly after ordering the unconditional
surrender of Germany he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years
imprisonment. |

Review
The packing is a book type box that was clean
appearance to it. there is a drawing of the figure fully dressed in the
cover. When you open the box the inside cover has a biography of
Karl Donitz. The biography has some grammar errors that appear to be
cause by the translation to English. the figure is behind a protective
plastic over.
|
 |
| The head sculpt is very well done. The attention to
detail and the character of the head sculpt is very impressive. the
paint was crisp and clean and there were no defects on the head sculpt.
|
|
|
The body is very articulate but of average design and quality. The
first thing you will notice about it is that it is held together by
screws instead of glue, this will make repairs very easy. the hands
change out very easy and have a solid feel to them. The figure stands up
with little effort, has a nice weight and a solid feel. There are two
down sides to the base figure. The head is attached and stays in place,
but pops off with very little effort. The both sets of hands have a
problem with holding the accessories because they have no flexibility to
them. |
 |
| The costume is very nice; Donitz comes with a
full uniform with all the trimmings. The Grand Admiral Pea Jacket is
especially nice. The detail to the medals is well done. |
|
|
The figure comes with a hat, German Admiral Dagger, gloved hands, Grosadmiralstab, and a belt.
The dagger, Grosadmiralstab and the belt
buckle are metal and all are superbly painted. |

|
Summary:
Tomato Hobby has done a nice job with Karl Donitz the
costume is excellent and the head sculpt has a lot of character. On the down
side the head is not attached very well, the hands have a problem holding
the accessories and finally the biography on the front cover was not proofed
and contains errors. Karl scores an Above Average rating and a
recommend; I am definitely looking forward for Tomato's next figure.
