Dragon's Soldat 002 "Jim Gordon"

June 6, 2004

Dragon models has recently released its second figure in their Soldat series called Soldat 002. In my opinion this is one of the most impressive figures to hit the market in a long time. Soldat 002 depicts Private James "Jim" Gordon of the 101st Airborne at Normandy during June of 1944.

The figure is packed in a black box with the Soldat Logo, the box also has a depiction of the figure on the cover. When you open the box you are presented with the figure and the most impressive array of accessories and weapons.  The figure is well done; the head sculpt is outstanding, I could not find any defects in the paint or mold. Dragon has done a superb job with this head sculpt and I believe they deserve two thumbs up in this area. The body is what you can expect from Dragon it is well articulated and solid. Jim also comes equipped with optional gloved hands.

The costume is first class all the way, Jim has everything he needs for battle an authentic uniform which includes T-shirt, shirt, pants, jacket, boots, helmet, suspenders, hat, and a pair or shorts. There are a few of things about the uniform that stands out, the first is the use of multiple fabrics and textures for the pants and shirt this really adds to the realism. The next is the use of real buttons and simulated brass snaps and finally there is the detail in the stitching and pockets. Dragon has taken a lot of time with the uniform and it definitely shows.

The accessories is where this figure really excels; Jim comes equipped with everything imaginable.

Weapons:

A  full arsenal including a M1 rifle, Grenades, TNT, pistol, bayonet, and plenty of ammo. The detail of the weapons is impressive, an example of this attention can be seen in the rifle and how it breaks down like the real thing.

Parachute and bags

Jim Gordon is a member of the first Airborne and the set would not be complete without a parachute and supporting gear. Include with the figure is a main chute, reserve chute, and a whole host of packs. The only let down is with the parachute, it is non working and just for display.

I was extremely impressed with the personal items include with this figure. The kit Includes such items as personal papers, mess kit, canteen, rations, cigarettes, cash, watch, shovel and a pocket knife.

Summary:

This figure is nothing short of fantastic and deserves high marks. The head sculpt ,uniform and accessories are second to none; Dragon has scored a win with Soldat 002.
