The following review is about a project I completed this fall, a Michael Keaton Batman. The base figure that I used for this project was a vintage Captain Action that I cobbled together from a few different sources. Most of the figure is original with the exception of his forearms and hands. His forearm was from an Ideal Night Of Darkness and his hands were from a Playing Mantise reproduction DR. Evil.
The Batman costume consists of the suite and cape that was made by Rauty’s Toy Shop. The suite is a black jump suite made out of a stretchy fabric that fits the Vintage Captain Action perfect. The cape is a black shiny material that looks similar to silk but it is a cloth. The cape when on the figure hangs nicely and gives the appearance of Batman’s leather cape. I have to admit I am impressed by the workmanship and quality of this suite. Rauty has obviously put a lot of time and effort into this suite; it is a very professional job.
The Batman set consist of a cowl, gloves, chest plate, utility belt and boots. The set was made by Dale Van Slyke diver4@minspring.com. The cowl is in the style of a Michael Keaton batman and Dale has definitely captured the essence of Batman in this piece. The first thing you will notice is that the cowl slides over the action figures head very easily and is a perfect fit. The detail of the cowl and painting is outstanding. The chest plate and boots look like the ones worn by Michael Keaton in the batman movie. The utility belt fits around the waist and is attached with Velcro. The gloves fit over Captain Action’s hands easily and complete the look of the set. This set is outstanding and the craftsmanship that Dale has put into all the pieces is fantastic.
The entire figure with Rauty’s suite and Dale’s Batman set is outstanding and a thousand times better than anything released by Ideal or Playing Mantis. As a side note I have tried this suite with a vintage GI-Joe and it looks great. This custom is definitely not just for Captain Action and if you are a true Batman fan I recommend you contact Rauty and Dale. You can reach Rauty at Rauty's Toy Shop and Dale at diver4@minspring.com
