Ignite Roman 2 Centurion

March 1, 2004

The Roman Empire was created by means of conquest and assimilation. This was accomplished by having the first professional army. This Army was  responsible for the spread the empire and its culture through out Europe and parts of Africa forever shaping the modern world. At the heart of this great army was the Legionnaire (the common soldier) and his commander the Centurion. Centurions demanded extreme loyalty and discipline from their men and enforced it with a stick made from vine.

Ignite's latest action figure the Roman II Centurion provides us with a unique glimpse of this ancient soldier. This is the second in Ignites Roman Centurion series. Like the first Roman Centurion it is  rich in detail and value. The Roman II Centurion comes in the standard ignite box which is a book type package that can be used to display the figure. The front of the box has a depiction of the Centurion in the heat of battle, the inside cover has brief history army.

Simply stated the head sculpt is great, the face has a lot of character and has a familiar look to it (a young Al Pachino). The painting is done cleanly with no overspray. The only down side to the head sculpt is the less than believable highlights used in the hair, they look very smudgy and take away from the overall look. As with other Ignite figures the body is very articulate and has a great weight and is of average design and quality

As we have seen with other Ignite figure they excel in this area of costumes and this figure is no exception. The figure is sporting a red tunic, padded chest protector, chain mail suite, leather harness, and chrome shin protectors. There is also a red cape that really adds to the figures WOW factor.

The accessories are fantastic there are two spears, full shield, large and small swords, and an absolutely awsome helmet with feathers. It should also be noted that all the accessories are die cast and plastic.

Our test figure did have a problem with the sheath to the large sword it was not properly glued together. I sent a email to Ignites customer support and to Ignites credit they responded to my email in 15 minutes and notified me a replacement was on its way.

Summary:

The Roman 2 is a great figure and I am definitely going to add it to my personal collection, however I have to admit the quality on our test figure is not what I have come to expect from Ignite.
