GIjOE Action Marine
July 4, 2004

For the 40th Anniversary of GIjOE Hasbro is offering a series of reproductions of
the original 1964 GIjOE and his accessories. Our review subject is part of Wave 2 and the 8th in
the series. This package
includes a painted head Action Marine with the Beachhead accessories. The
packing for the 40th Anniversary collection is nothing short of fantastic.
The box has a clear cover that allows you to see the Beachhead kit and the
Action Marine box, when you flip the box over you get a view of the figure
through a window. All of the packing has a retro look and and feel; All I
have to say is way to go Hasbro.
The head sculpt is classic Joe all the way right down to his scar, and as
anyone knows the original Joe head sculpt was pure perfection. Yeah I know
I'm laying it on a little thick here but Hasbro has done a nice job on
this figure.

The figure has a classic Joe body with the classic hands. There
are several differences between this figure and the Classic 1964 version, most
notably is the color, it is more tan while the 1964 version was more on the
pink side. The second big difference is the markings on the butt, the
new one says Made in China while the classic Joe say's Made in the USA and
finally the new figure is about a half inch shorter than the original.

Costume is an impressive copy of the original Marine camouflage uniform,
from the cap right down to the tall brown boots.

Accessories:
The figure include a copy of the MM77-00 Marine Manual
and sticker sheets both are nicely done.

The beachhead kit looks great in its retro style
packing. The kit includes replicas of the original field pack,M-1 riffle,
bayonet, cartridge belt, entrenching shovel, entrenching cover, canteen,
canteen cover, Grenades, and the Marine Field Manual.

Summary:
Hasbro has done a great job with this reproduction and
they deserve high marks. I do have one comment, I like the fact that they did
not make a 100% copy of the original but left enough difference to deter
less than ethical individuals from passing the new figure off as the
vintage.
