Vintage 1960's GIjOE Space Capsule and Vintage Space Suit by Hasbro

Growing up in the 60's there where three things that occupied my summers GIjJOE and Captain Action, the Space Race, and Star Trek. It is no wonder that the one toy that I  have the fondest memories of was the GiJoe Space Capsule that belonged to my cousin Ken. We spent the majority of one summer tossing the capsule into the pool and performing a recovery from the depths with our GIjOE Deep Sea Diver and Scuba team. Unfortunately, Ken's Capsule did not survive the years and has been lost to the town dump.

This summer I started a quest to add a Vintage Capsule to my collection and wound up finding two on ebay for a very reasonable price. The first capsule is the version that glows in the dark (hey 30 plus years old and it still glows); the capsule is in decent shape with the handles and seat belt intact, although the stickers are showing their age and the window is cracked (common problem). The second is a standard capsule that came in the original box with a two zipper space suit that is in great shape. The second capsule's window was melted and needs to be replaced and one handle is missing.

Both Capsules need work, and I am still hunting for the original record and some miscellaneous pieces, but as we all know that is half the fun of collecting. In a future Issue I will be resorting these capsules and featuring them in the Rescuing a Friend Section.

The following are some more photos of the two Capsules and accessories
